MATRIMONY MIX-UP

Hoping for a fresh start, Ann Cromwell travels to New Haven, Ohio, from London, England, as a mail-order bride—and learns she’s not the wife her groom-to-be was looking for. Though handsome farmer James McCann is kindly, he’s made it clear he wants the matchmaking agency to fix their mistake. But if she can’t convince him to give her a chance, she’s not sure where she’ll go.

James can’t imagine why the matchmakers ignored his request for a plain bride. He was burned by a beautiful woman before, and he’s sure someone as stunning as Ann is unsuited for rural living. While the agency sorts out the error, though, Ann quietly works her way into James’s life…but can he ever allow her into his heart?

 Historic Fashion Show

I belong to the Native Daughters of the Golden West, an organization for women born in California who are eager to preserve our state’s rich history. My parlor’s monthly meetings just so happen to be held in the historic church featured in my debut novel, A Bride Opens Shop in El Dorado, California.

Our September meeting included the annual visit from our Grand President. In her honor, we enjoyed a potluck luncheon and vintage fashion show.

Since I own a replica Victorian gown, our parlor president invited me to be one of the models, and I accepted. Six other women and I modeled fashions dating from the early Gold Rush days to the 1920s.

This was only my second time to serve as a model in a fashion show. Although doing so took me out of my comfort zone, I had fun. The best part was writing the description of my dress. I might not be writing novels now, but I still enjoy working with words.
