LIH Spotlight: Mail-Order Christmas Baby

This week I’m shining the spotlight on
Mail-Order Christmas Baby, a November release from
Love Inspired Historical author Sherri Shackelford.

Learn more about the story below, and then scroll
down to enter the giveaway for a print copy.

The Rancher’s Special Delivery

The “package” is addressed to him, but rancher Sterling Blackwell certainly didn’t order a baby! More scandalous still, he and the town’s pretty teacher are named as parents. With gossip running wild, only a marriage of convenience can protect little Gracie and their reputations until her real family is found.

Heather O’Connor is content to be the spinster schoolmarm of Valentine, Montana…until Gracie’s arrival stirs her heart. She can’t keep the adorable child without Sterling’s help, though she promises not to interfere with his life. But staying aloof from her handsome husband isn’t easy with a tiny matchmaker in tow. A mistake brought them together, but love might just make them a family by Christmas…

 Heartbreak, Healing and Hope

The past few weeks have brought one heartbreaking situation after another: devastating hurricanes, a massive earthquake in Mexico and the tragic shooting in Las Vegas. After my devotions this morning, I popped on Facebook and read about the fires raging in Santa Rosa, California that have forced three of my literary agency’s staff members to evacuate.

Heartbreaking news such as this is hard to hear. I’ve prayed about the situations repeatedly, many times through a sheen of tears. But I’m not without hope. We who have accepted the Lord as our Savior have the assurance that He’s there with and for us in good times and bad.

I shared a prayer request with a dear friend of mine this past week. She referred me to a Bible verse she finds helpful in uncertain times. I was comforted not only by the Scripture passage, but also by my friend’s kindness in directing me to the uplifting words.

LIH Spotlight & Giveaway: A Temporary Family

This week I’m shining the spotlight on
A Temporary Family by Sherri Shackelford,
a March release from Love Inspired Historical.

Learn more about the story below, and then scroll
down to enter the giveaway for a print copy.

Make-Believe Marriage

When Tilly Hargreaves and her three nieces are stranded at his small stagecoach station in an abandoned town and threatened by outlaws, Nolan West must protect them. And the only way he can do that is by pretending he’s married to Tilly. But can the former solider, whose only wish is for solitude, stop himself from growing attached to his temporary family?

Tilly knows the charade is necessary to keep her and the girls safe, but now her heart is in danger. The longer she pretends the stoic station agent is her husband, the more genuine their union feels. Nolan believes he’s better off alone, but Tilly’s certain that if he’d only open his heart to his make-believe family, he’d want to claim them as his for real.

Two Great Ways to Get Your
Love Inspired Historical Books Early

Harlequin Site

I used to order the books for my weekly giveaways directly from Harlequin. The books are available a month ahead of the release dates, which is fun. Who doesn’t like to get the books they’ve been waiting for early? They are also discounted. I got them for $4.79 each. Since I ordered four, I qualified for free shipping, making my total order just $19.16.

I earned My Rewards points, which enabled me to get free books. These points are available to anyone in the U.S. or Canada who buys Harlequin books online or in store. You just send in copies of your receipts.

Reader Service Program

Although buying the books from the Harlequin site gives me all these benefits, I’ve switched to the Reader Service program because I get even more.

Just for joining the Reader Service program, I received a welcome package that included two free Love Inspired Historical books, a check for $1.00 and a cute little sticky note pad.

My first shipment arrived this past weekend. Talk about fun in a box.

I received the four April Love Inspired Historical titles. Yes, you read that right. April. I will now be getting the LIH books two months before they hit the shelves. How cool is that?

In addition, I received a free Love Inspired book. But that’s not all.

I received the first of six cute little canapé knives. Each of my next five shipments will include another knife for me to add to the set.

What did this cost me? Far less than the cover price. I get each book for 20% off the cover price, plus 50¢ per book shipping and handling, for a total of $20.96 for the four books. Oh, and there was a $1.00 off coupon to use when I make my next payment.

I have set up automatic recurring shipments, so I don’t even have to remember to place an order each month.

In case you can’t tell, I’m one happy customer.

Fun Question for Cheryl…

Since this is World Kindness Week, please tell us about an unexpected kindness someone has shown you recently.

Cheryl says: “A couple weeks ago my daughter, granddaughter and I were taking a flight home from LAX. Even though we arrived at the airport a couple of hours early, we got into a roped off line that went out a door. There were at least a hundred people waiting to get through the TSA scanners. We weren’t pressed for time, but we were tired.

A short lady in a uniform approached us, gestured for the last ten of us in line to join her and led us around a corner and down a hall to another door, where we stepped in and immediately had our IDs checked and went though the scanners as though we were VIPs. We thanked God on the spot and were grateful for His favor. We had plenty of time to eat and rest before our flight.”

Your Turn…

What’s a kindness you’ve been shown recently?
