A Baby for Christmas

The only Christmas gift Oscar Rabb’s four-year-old daughter prays for is one the widower can’t provide: a baby sibling. And when his neighbor’s house burns down, he’s willing to open his home to pregnant and widowed Kate Amaker and her in-laws—but not his heart. Even if his little girl’s convinced Kate’s unborn child is the answer to her wish.

Kate quickly sees the generous but aloof Oscar has little interest in growing closer to his houseguests. Still, she intends to make the coming Christmas a season to remember for his daughter. And as Oscar starts to open up to her, Kate can’t help picturing just how wonderful the holidays—and a future together—might be.

Treasured Memories

Our daughter, Adriana, will be twenty-seven on New Year’s Day. I can’t believe how quickly the years have gone by. I can recall her childhood vividly, and it doesn’t seem that long ago

This past weekend, Carl and I took a walk through our neighborhood, one we used to take with Adri when she was little. As we passed beneath a certain row of trees, I was swept back in time.

When Adri was around five, the three of us walked beneath these same trees one day. The branches hung low and created a secluded shady spot underneath that reminded Carl of the jungle. He launched into a fun version of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

Each time I pass under those low-hanging branches, I’m reminded of our daughter and the many times we sang that song together while walking through our imaginary jungle. What a special memory that is, one of many.

This week I’m shining the spotlight on
The Bounty Hunter’s Baby by Erica Vetsch,

The Bounty Hunter’s Baby
 by Erica Vetsch

Brought Together by a Baby

Bounty hunter Thomas Beaufort has no problem handling outlaws, but when he’s left with a criminal’s baby to care for, he’s in over his head. And the only person he can think of to ask for help is Esther Jensen, the woman whose heart he broke when he left town. But can he convince her to put aside the past until he tracks down the baby’s outlaw father?

Esther is ready to run Thomas off her Texas ranch—until she spies the abandoned newborn in his arms. Soon, working together to care for the precious babe stirs old hopes of a family. With trouble heading to their door, they could overcome it together—if she’ll entrust her wary heart to this sweet, second-chance family…

Website Update

This past week, my website got spruced up a bit. My awesome web designer, Jason Walker of Website Ministries, did a wonderful job deciphering my non-techie notes and turning my ideas into reality. As usual, he went above and beyond, working until midnight on Saturday to complete the changes. I can’t speak highly enough about him.

What changed? The banner, the background and the pictures in the navigation bar for starters. I was after a lighter, brighter look and am delighted with the results. A professional photographer friend of mine gifted me a photo shoot this past spring. I’m delighted to be using one of her great shots in the header.

There are a few more subtle changes. I removed the drop down menus and made clear what is in each room of my Victorian-style cyber home by adding sub-titles on the navigation buttons. Since I wanted to include some extra pages, I added links to them on the main pages. For example, if you visit the Library and look in the sidebar, you’ll find links to lists of all the Love Inspired Historicals by author or by series. If you stop by the Study, you’ll find links to pages with various writing and reviewing tips.

Updating a website, like remodeling a house, is a labor of love. I’m happy with the results. Despite all the planning and preparation, though, it’s possible some things get overlooked. If you notice anything amiss, such as links that don’t work or pages with the wrong designation, please feel free to let me know.

Questions for You…

What have you done to spruce up your place recently?
New towels in the bathroom? A new bedspread? Painted a room?

Have you ever undertaken a major renovation?
What was the process like? Were you pleased with the result?

Seven Brides for Seven Texans Giveaway!

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is one of the musicals I enjoyed when I was young. This movie–about the oldest brother taking a wife and encouraging his six brothers to claim brides of their own by “capturing” them–came out in 1954. Even though that was a few years before I came on the scene, I remember watching the show and being swept up in the romantic aspects of it.

The Seven Brides for Seven Texans Romance Collection, coming December 1, features seven brothers who are issued an edict by their father: find a wife in one year’s time in order to claim a share of their father’s cattle empire. Although each brother’s story is told by a different author, the stories work together, much like episodes of a television show. There are no captured brides or musical numbers, but there is plenty of romance.

My story, “A Love Returned,” features the middle brother, Sam Houston Hart. When Coralee Culpepper declined his proposal, Houston left Texas for the gold fields of California. But when his father’s edict brings him home, will Coralee—the only woman to ever claim his heart—accept him, or will he be forced to return to the Golden State alone?

Writing a Texas-set story was different for me since I’m a native Californian who has set my novels here in the Gold Country where I live. I do have ties to Texas, though. It just so happens that my mother and my father-in-law grew up in the same West Texas town. Both had come to California before my husband and I were born. Discovering our shared heritage when I was dating Carl was fun. So was adding some Texas elements to Houston’s story.

I’m looking forward to the release of this collection, which has already received some glowing reviews on Goodreads. I have yet to receive my author copies, but you could win one of them anyhow. See the Rafflecopter entry form below, but first, here’s more about the collection and where you can get it.
