Writing for Love Inspired

My Dream of Writing for Love Inspired

Harlequin Romance from the 1970sI’m honored to be writing for Harlequin’s Love Inspired Historical line of sweet, God-honoring romances.

When I was a teenager, I spent my summers reading stacks of the squeaky-clean Harlequin romances of the 1970s. I bought them for 10¢ apiece at the local used bookstore, as did my mom and sisters. When we each finished our dollar’s worth, we would swap stacks.

As I devoured one sweet Harlequin romance after another, I dreamed of writing stories like them. Forty years later, that dream became reality when my first Love Inspired Historical, Family of Her Dreams, was released.

Your Dream of Writing for Love Inspired

If you dream of writing for Love Inspired Historical, I want to encourage you to do all you can to make that dream come true. You don’t need to have an agent. All you have to do is write a wonderful story and submit it according to the steps found on the Write for Harlequin page.

In order to create a story that will catch the eye of a Love Inspired editor, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the line you’re targeting. There are three: Love InspiredLove Inspired Historical and Love Inspired Suspense.

By reading books in the line of your choosing, you can get a good feel for what types of stories the editors are buying and how they’re structured. Reading and following the guidelines for each line, found on the Harlequin Submissions page, will ensure that you produce a story that is a good fit.

Why I Love Writing for Love Inspired Historical

Keli's LIHsThe stories in the Love Inspired Historical line, all of which can be seen listed by author here and by series here, are wholesome, heartwarming, faith-filled tales that transport readers back in time. They range from Regency romances to WWII stories. Western-set stories are popular, and there are plenty of them. My stories take place in California’s Gold Country or, as I like to call it, the Far West. I bring Gold Rush towns to life and add a generous serving of history, which is such fun.

Since they’re smaller books, Love Inspired Historicals, don’t take as long to read as larger historical romance novels, making them a great choice for those who are short on time. They’re easy to tuck them in a purse or tote, too. Despite their size, they’re engaging stories with heartwarming romances that readers love. The books also cost a lost less than bigger books, making them budget-friendly. As the wife of a retired teacher, that appeals to me, as I’m sure it does to many of our readers. Who doesn’t want more books for less money?

Another reason I love writing for Love Inspired Historical is the support I receive as an author. My editor, Emily Rodmell, really knows her stuff. Her excellent input helps me make my stories the best they can be. Many others contribute to my books as well. The copywriters create back cover copy that reel readers in. The Love Inspired art department designs covers that evoke squeals of delight when I first see them. Everyone I’ve dealt with at the corporate offices has been friendly and quick to answer my questions. It’s wonderful to be part of a company that work hard to provide the kind of stories readers want and treats the authors who write them so well.
