The Rancher’s Special Delivery

The “package” is addressed to him, but rancher Sterling Blackwell certainly didn’t order a baby! More scandalous still, he and the town’s pretty teacher are named as parents. With gossip running wild, only a marriage of convenience can protect little Gracie and their reputations until her real family is found.

Heather O’Connor is content to be the spinster schoolmarm of Valentine, Montana…until Gracie’s arrival stirs her heart. She can’t keep the adorable child without Sterling’s help, though she promises not to interfere with his life. But staying aloof from her handsome husband isn’t easy with a tiny matchmaker in tow. A mistake brought them together, but love might just make them a family by Christmas…

 Heartbreak, Healing and Hope

The past few weeks have brought one heartbreaking situation after another: devastating hurricanes, a massive earthquake in Mexico and the tragic shooting in Las Vegas. After my devotions this morning, I popped on Facebook and read about the fires raging in Santa Rosa, California that have forced three of my literary agency’s staff members to evacuate.

Heartbreaking news such as this is hard to hear. I’ve prayed about the situations repeatedly, many times through a sheen of tears. But I’m not without hope. We who have accepted the Lord as our Savior have the assurance that He’s there with and for us in good times and bad.

I shared a prayer request with a dear friend of mine this past week. She referred me to a Bible verse she finds helpful in uncertain times. I was comforted not only by the Scripture passage, but also by my friend’s kindness in directing me to the uplifting words.

LIH Spotlight: A Lawman for Christmas

This week I’m shining the spotlight on
A Lawman for Christmas, a November release from
Love Inspired Historical author Karen Kirst.

The Gift of Family

Committed to her spinsterhood, Isabel Flores isn’t about to trust a man with her hard-won independence or her heart—especially not lawman Ben MacGregor. But when a little boy is abandoned on her property, the so-called “Debonair Deputy” of their small Tennessee town helps her care for the child. And Isabel begins to hope he might be more than just a handsome flirt.

Ben is well aware of Isabel’s aversion to love and has his own secret reasons for avoiding relationships. But as he and Isabel do their best to make the holiday special for their young ward, Ben wonders if he could be a family man after all. Will this Christmas be the first of many for Isabel and Ben’s little instant family?

 Changes Big and Small

Although I’m not known for being flexible or spontaneous, I’ve made a number of changes in my life this year. The biggest, of course, is choosing to stop writing novels and embrace retirement, but there have been others.

I accepted the Bin Babe position at church and help gather the supplies for the elementary Sunday School teachers each week, a task I enjoy. I’m a mentor mom at MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and am looking forward to loving on the young moms in my table group. I’ve sported a new hairstyle all summer.

One area where I don’t switch things up very often is that of home decor. Gwynly and I have lived in our house twenty-four years, and yet we’ve rearranged our living room furniture once. The grouping of items on the wall behind our dining table has been there in the same pleasing arrangement since the day I first hung them. A Fiestaware vase filled with silk flowers that sits behind our corner kitchen sink has brightened that spot for over two decades.

A few months back I began collecting new wall hangings. Ever since, they’ve been piled in our bedroom floor, patiently awaiting their new homes. This past weekend, I summoned the courage to wield the hammer, pound the nails and put the new pictures in place.

Our bedroom now has a romance theme. When I saw this LOVE wall hanging, I knew it was just the thing, so I snagged it.

I soak in a tub filled with steaming hot water every night before bed, so these cute wall hangings are fitting. They have the added bonus of being a muted shade of purple, which prompted me to get a shower curtain in the same color. I love the new look.

I’m a California girl to the core, so when I saw this wall hanging, I put it in my cart pronto. The fun image of my beloved Golden State hangs in my office now, making my heart happy every time I see it.

I’ve made other small changes and have more planned. Each one adds freshness and fun to our home, which, to quote Japanese tidying expert Marie Kondo, “sparks joy” and reminds me that change can be a good thing.
